AutoCockers

A. Is it better to upgrade from a stock AutoCocker or an upgraded Cocker.

Hey Glen,

A.I am about to buy a cocker.  I am looking at something like and STO or Blackmagic from WGP.

[Glenn Palmer] OK  About the only difference between the two is the eye candy,  pivoting trigger on the STO and the Black magic has the angled forward ASA.  The internals and pneumatics are essentially identical

I was just wondering if you think it would be more advantageous for me to buy a stock verticle feed WGP cocker for say $350 and then let you guys do the Ultra Mini-cocker conversion and the trigger job.

[Glenn Palmer] Well, it would require the same amount of work on our end regardless of which model you start with.  Neither the STO or BM is in “miniCocker” format.  A miniCocker is defined by removing 1” off the front of the body where the vertical ASA normally is.  Our Ultra miniCocker upgrade is better associated with older versions of the ‘cocker.   On current model ‘cockers, it is generally best to consider modifications on an individual basis instead of the mini conversion package.

In other words, what you would be looking at in terms of our performance upgrades (Palmerizing)  on any of the newer ‘cockers would be along the lines of installing a Rock regulator, doing the ProTouch trigger job and Performance tuning (inside and out) to bring the whole gun together in a fully optimized package. (typically a $225.00 project, plus return shipping) Beyond that, it would just be a matter of personal preference toward hardware and/or appearance. Shortening any of them down to “mini” configuration is a separate $100.00 project. You may also want to consider upgrading the 4-way to a QuikSwitch, ($39.00) quite simply, the best 4-way available on the planet for ANY autococker.  (STB    Simply the Best )

This would cost a little more than a stock

[Glenn Palmer] The bottom line will actually depend on what you want it to look like when it is finished. The end result, in terms of actual performance; accuracy potential, consistency and reliability should/would be the same, regardless if we started with a basic stock ‘cocker or one of the decked out versions.

STO ($600) and in the same range as a Blackmagic ($700-800), but what are the performance advantages?

[Glenn Palmer] Proper tuning and setup insures that it is the “best” it can be.  To insure maximum effectiveness down range, you may also need to address the barrel.

In terms of actual “performance” potential, there really isn’t all that much difference between a basic stock ‘cocker and WGP’s upscale units. Considering of course, proper setup and tuning.

Please let me know your opinion on this.

[Glenn Palmer] You may also want to consider just having us build the whole gun for you.  We start with a Standard WGP body and then build it our way, with our components and other hardware all setup to meet YOUR needs. A typical PalmerCocker prices range from about $800 and up.  Depending largely on eye candy or air system options.  For the sake of example:

Center Palmerized miniCocker.   .  Performance tune, Trigger job (1.5 lbs- 3mm) 14" vented barrel STB Pro kit,  , Lightning Bolt,  Male or Direct Stabilizer, Lapco drop forward, Kapp spring kit, Benchmark  45 frame w/PPS wrap around grips. Satin black finish with nickel trim.  [Runs at 350 psi on HPA or CO2] as shown   $975.00     http://www.palmer-pursuit.com/cp.htm
